Day one. Training Begins

So I have decided to race in the Santa Barbara Triathlon this coming August. The race is divided into three sections: a one mile swim, a 34 mile bike ride, and a 10 mile run, in that order. Granted, I have never raced in any sort of official race before, let alone a triathlon, but I think it will be a good motivation to get into better shape and it would be a great accomplishment.

Today's training: 36 Mile Bike Ride
Time: ~ 2:45

Here's the route

My strategy is to train for each of the three components individually and then stitch them together as the triathlon approaches. The piece that I am most concerned about right now is the swim. This triathlon requires a one mile swim in under 50 minutes! And I've never really been a superb swimmer, at least not freestyle swimming. Dog paddle comes to mind, but that probably wouldn't fly :). There's nothing to do except get in shape for swimming. Hopefully this blog will help me stay committed to the idea and the training for it. I still need to work out a training regimen that will get me in shape for August. Until then, tata!
